Pretty " shabby chic " antique Durham , very soft and quite strong freshly washed.

It is a good sized double shown on a standard double bed

It has some wear along the top of one end and one hole which is the size of a 50p piece approx. one mark that needs more work

On the reverse the wear along the top has been patched ( badly ) it would be better in one long piece. It has a small patch near end of bed.

This is a really nice old quilt and still has lots of life to live.

Fantastic padded applique quilt, has been through a good wash as was dis-coloured through long storage It has fantastic quilting and superb workmanship, there are a few minor repairs needed as the padded centre of some of the flowers need replacing, not too difficult I think one tiny ink spot and a mark which I think was a result of me trying to photograph outside ! 72 inches wide x 90 inches long, soo pretty £200 .00

Some  damaged and worn quilts can have a second life, they are brilliantly designed and have a range of early fabrics which in themselves have a story to tell and are a document of their time.
Often made from the personal clothes of the maker.
I rescue these treasures to use as works of Art! They look wonderful on a wall.
I wish I had more walls ! In Muckleford I could ( as many will remember ) drape them everywhere

This is a coverlet. I think late 1800's from the fabrics although there are earlier fabrics in it.
I have the right period fabrics in good condition if required.
There is no doubt it is worth restoring, it is hand stitched and hand quilted.
The quilt is very clean as it was laundered so what is there now is sound.

Wonderful range of traditional colours

Indigolillies.JPG

As it has not been possible to go to the USA of late, I have been concentrating on collecting early English quilts. Log Cabin and Frame quilts are my favourite patterns. I have found some really early examples from early to mid 19 cent fabrics, sooo exciting !! These quilts do tend to be a bit distressed but the colours are amazing and they make wonderful document items. I hang them on the wall as works of Art.

I am trying to keep my site up to date on quilts that are available at this time.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I can always send you more pictures.

American Feedsack Patchwork cushion

American Feedsack quilts are very collectable.  During the depression every scrap of fabric was precious so the thrifty housewife recycled the cotton feedsacks for various domestic uses.  The Feed Merchants realised this was an opportunity and started producing the feedsacks in pretty floral fabrics. These in turn ended up in country quilts, I always bring a selection home from my visits to America.
